Pebbs & Hex: Pop Up Park

A native tree and wildflowers gallery

Location: Toronto CN Tower

Partners: Sidewalk Labs + CN Tower

Design-Build Team: Victor Perez-Amado, Anton Skorishchenko Christian Huizenga, Miranda Fay, Niko McGlashan, Peter Dowhaniuk, Eric Davies Photos by Remi Carreiro

Pebbs & Hex is a pop-up park and gallery featuring trees and wildflowers native to Southern Ontario. The space features cedar "pebbles," which serve as seating and as planters, as well as hexagonal tree planters. As you sit or walk among the oaks, maples, cherries, poplars, willows, elms, and conifers, solar-powered lighting elements move with the wind.

Reflecting the CN Tower’s and Canada Lands Company’s commitment to enrich Canadian communities and experiences, the pop-up park is an exploration of innovative design strategies that embrace adaptable furniture, participatory design, multi-generational place-making, material prototyping, and ecological restoration. The project also re-envisions what urban green space can be through design and ecological innovation.
